There's this friend I met on Facebook. He resides in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. He works real hard pursuing his radio dreams and at some time had developed a pirate radio station! When I switched  in 2009 from DA LUVCHYLD to TONY DOE, it was because I wanted to separate the unsuccessful hip-hop act from the emerging broadcaster. Some thought it wasn't such a great move. I had a deeper insight and I couldn't be bothered with explaining it to anyone. However over time, I've grown to appreciate the body of work from a really talented rapper who probably just wasn't as enthusiastic about his art as was expected. Well, when marketers tell you endlessly that your songs won't sell, it does leave a dent on your self esteem. I'm thinking of heading back to the studio in a bit and bridging the gap between my era and what's out there today without losing substance...though I'm not sure I'll be re-enacting Da Luvchyld's aura. There has been an uproar on social media, specifically twitter about the nature of today's OAP (or radio personality) . My people have been accused of forcing false accents down the ears of the listener, of being voices without content and poor contributors to Nigeria's music progress. Mmmh, na wa. Recently I made a guest appearance in an edition of the very informative, colourful pan-African digital magazine, E.C.H.O. and some of the questions asked veered into OAP/Artiste/Music relationship territory. I made it clear though that artistes had to have the right attitude before expecting to hear their songs on the airwaves. However, a portion of OAPs are more interested in hearing their own voices and airing their very limited opinions on very delicate subject matter than paying attention to the quality of music they put out.
